Forum: etree Subject: yes, but watch out for the thumbnail display!

Please keep in mind that if you include images (whether with a new upload or as an addition to a previous upload), the LMA will try to display the first image (sorted alphabetically) as a thumbnail for the concert. If you have a 2Meg image file, anyone who tries to view the show's details page will be forced to download the full 2Meg, which will then be scaled to fit in a 160 pixel-width box.

If you're going to upload images, I highly recommend that you also include a small thumbnail image, with a name that comes first alphabetically. I use "archive_image.jpg" myself, as that name makes it fairly clear what the purpose of the image is, and it precedes almost all names alphabetically.

Here's a show without a separate thumbnail. Note that the back cover gets displayed because "back" sorts before "front". Note also how long it takes for the image to download, and how it's squished down to the point of unreadability.

Here's a show (one of mine) with an "archive_image.jpg" file. Note how much faster it displays, and how much better the thumbnail looks!

p.s. I've actually gone through and added thumbnails to all my shows that had cover art because of this. The procedure for adding thumbnails to an existing show is the same as that for adding images, as described by greenone.

I don't think it's posted anywhere, but here's how to do it. Note that you can only do this for shows you have uploaded.

1) Go to the item page and click "Edit item".
2) Click "Item Manager".
3) Click "checkout".
4) Log in to the server via FTP and upload your CD cover.
5) Check the fileset back in.

This should include the cover in your fileset - it might take a few minutes to show up, but it's there. If you want to label it "CD Cover":

6) Click "Edit item" again.
7) Find the CD cover in the metadata editor at the bottom of the page, make sure "JPEG" is selected in the file type, and title it whatever you want.

And viola, violin, violoncello - your CD cover is posted.

i'm sure it can happen. e-mail the LMA admins at

etree at archive DOT org

with a list of the shows you taped (direct LMA links) and the jpg files attached and we'll see what we can do.
